Since its inception Simlab has been involved with numerous major projects across the country and carried out field investigations for projects ranging from buildings, bridges, water treatment works and township developments to roads requiring rehabilitation.
Fields Of Specialisation
Material Surveys
Borrow pit / rock (quarry) surveys, centre-line material surveys, in situ material surveys for rehabilitation designs, classification of road building materials for optimal utilisation.
Geotechnical Investigation
Surveys for urban development, buildings and structures, stability of fills and cuttings, cemeteries, dumping sites, water and sewerage reticulation, dams, bridges and drainage structures.
Application of special techniques
Dust reducing, low cost surface layers, techniques and agents to make gravel roads more negotiable, optimal utilisation of existing gravel in roads and streets, implementation of labour intensive procedures.

Axle mass and traffic surveys, investigations for alternative pavement designs and maintenance procedures, design of surface seal and asphalt layers, implementation of labour intensive methods for pavement designs.
Rehabilitation surveys for existing pavements, visual surveys, deflection surveys, Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP) surveys, rut depth surveys, construction supervision and quality control.
Water Division
Simlab – Water Division was established on 1 April 2012 as part of Simlab Kimberley. This division covers a broad range of technical aspects surrounding water and purification. A full range of analyses on river, bore hole, sewerage and industrial water as well as dam water and tap water for drinking purposes.
The staff is well trained and experienced in the testing and evaluation of data obtained from the relevant tests. The water division provides services to various Municipalities, Water Authorities, Farmers and the Industrial Sector.
